Meeting Minutes
  • Introductions
    Barbra, Scott, Dan, Emily, Kari
  • Approval of Minutes from 09/07/10
  •  Reporting on Action Items

    • Improvement Committee (i.e. Park Weather Shelter)

      • Special thanks to Roger Blanchard, who retired Sept 30, 2010 after years of service to the beauty and accessibility of great spaces and areas around Moscow—including the Moscow Dog Park. We also wish to extend a warm welcome to Tom Grundin who will be taking over for Roger as our liaison with the City of Moscow. We would like to invite Tom to our next meeting. Kari will add him to our email news list if he is not already on it.
      • Shelter Plaque funds (Emily):
Emily will find out how many plaques we need to order and what needs to be on each one. She will then talk to The Trophy Shop about ordering the donation plaques. Scott will talk to Mr. Barnstone about the plaque the WSU students plan to install in the Weather Shelter.
      • Update on WS construction status (Scott):
No progress because of weather.  We still need to pebble the roof and put dirt around the foundation. This can be done at the next work party.
      • Work party postponed (Dan):
New date will be Tuesday, 10-12-10 @5:30pm.
      • Non-canine rule for the park (Dan):
The new rule, “All pets, other than dogs, are prohibited within the dog park.”, was posted at the park in the bulletin board and was also posted on the Friends of the Dog Park Web site (www.dogparkfriends.org/moscowdogpark).
      • New signage (Emily):
New signs were ordered for the park by the city. They will be installed in the park this fall.
      • Over-watering (Kari):
The sprinklers have been turned off and the park has been much drier.
      • New trees and shrubs (Scott):
Dan will ask Tom about placement and types of trees we can use to replace the dead ones on the east side of the park. Barbra offered to donate a tree to the park.
      • Wireless hotspot (Emily):
Emily contacted Dwight about adding free wireless access to the park. He asked the city IT person to look into this for us.
      • French Drain (Scott):
We plan to install a French Drain which the park pool can be placed on top off and also emptied into whenever needed. This will take care of the flooding and mud problems we currently have because of the pool use. Installation of a French Drain will most likely be a spring project for our volunteer group.
      • Small dog Area (Scott):
It has been decided that our current dog park is too small to support a separate area for small dogs. But it should be a goal for the future second dog park.
    • Second Park Search Committee (Barbra)
Barbra contacted Dwight and Tom and will meet with Tom soon about how to get started with this search committee.
    • Friends of the Dog Park Web Site (Kari)
All is going well. Nothing to report.
  • New Business

    • Next steps for Weather Shelter (rocks on roof, fill dirt around the cement slab, post the fund raising plaques):
Rocks and fill dirt will be completed at the next work party. Emily will start the process of looking into getting the plaques made this fall.
    • Schedule work party:
Tuesday, October 12, 2010 @ 5:30pm. We need lots of hands to help finish the Weather Shelter. We would also like to rake bark, pick up trash/ pooh, and hopefully plant a tree. Bring work gloves, rakes, and shovels if you’d like. In case of heavy rain, we will do it on Wed, the 13th instead.
    • Next steps for French drain:
Scott is going to find out about the next steps needed to get approval from the city for this idea and its placement in the park so we can hit the ground running in the spring and have it finished before summer.
    • Plan for UI Homecoming parade (application):
Parade starts on Oct 23, 2010 at 10am. Emily filled out the application and will turn it in for the Friends of the Dog Park. Kari is posting an announcement for this on our Web site and on the bulletin board at the park.
    • Other topics?
      • We would like to see more people picking up after their dogs at the park. As a courtesy to all, please help each owner notice when their dog does his/ her business if they miss it initially.
      • Cigarette butts are being left on the ground at the dog park and the dogs are eating them. Please dispose all cigarette butts in the trash.
      • Light up the Night Holiday Parade (12-1-10): Emily will fill out this application and turn it in so that the Friends of the Dog Park can be in this downtown holiday parade. Start searching for ways to safely light up your pooch!
