Committee (i.e.
Park Weather Shelter)
- Report: Shelter Plaque Fund-Raising Status
We’ve raised $3,640. Twenty-three plaques have been requested.
- Report: WSU Student Project Status
Last month we looked over the shelter plans that were presented to us by the WSU students. We picked one idea that we liked the best and asked them to make some adjustments. The adjustments have not been turned over to us yet. We are worried about running out of time in trying to use the WSU students since we haven’t heard from them and they will need to start working on site by the first week of May. We still need to get approval from the Parks Commission and the City Council before we can move forward. Scott will talk to the student’s professor about our time restraint concerns. He’ll ask if it may be possible for them to assemble parts of the weather shelter at WSU and then move the assembled sections over to the Moscow Dog Park for final construction when ready. Alternatively, we have the option to simply use the plans from the WSU school project and build it ourselves this summer.
- Open Discussion: Review Weather Shelter Design Proposals
Please visit the Weather Shelter page to see the design idea that we liked best. Emily will also post pictures on the bulletin board at the Dog Park.
- Open Discussion: Asphalt Funding Ideas
Discussed strategies for working with the City of Moscow to explore grant opportunities for the asphalt work needed to connect the two entrances and the weather shelter—making the dog park wheelchair accessible. Emily will talk to Roger about how we might go about getting a grant through the city to make the park more weather friendly as well as handicap accessible.
- Open Discussion: Alternative Ground Cover Materials
Discussed the idea of using alternative materials for ground cover such as bark substance contained by railroad ties or a concrete curb in the vicinity of the entrances. Kari and Dan came up with a wonderful map showing where the desired bark area could go. Scott says we have a excellent resource to very cheap or free bark. Emily will talk to Roger about this idea and see what he thinks.
- Open Discussion: Weather Shelter Time-Line Strategies
Discussed how we might achieve desired time-line for weather shelter given current status. As mentioned before, Scott will talk to the WSU professor about the time-line of the students. If this falls through for us, we can ask about going through the necessary steps to build the shelter ourselves this summer.
- spread dirt over low areas
- pick up toy pieces
- pick up rocks
- rake bark
- Emily will talk to Roger about this date and get back to all of you.
- Dog Park Meeting Sign
Dan thought it might be a good idea to have a sign posted during our dog park meetings that says “Dog Park Meeting in Progress. Come join us!” This way, people would know what we were doing and might be more inclined to join us at the table. We also talked about the fact that even though we don’t have a lot of people who show up to our meetings, we do get a good showing when there is work to be done. Emily also gets emails with questions, comments, or concerns from people who cannot come to the meetings, but would still like their input shared.
- K-9 Canter
